The NCLS Outreach department strives to help member libraries strengthen services to targeted outreach populations. Outreach mini-grants are designed to fund projects that provide library and/or information resources to outreach populations and to support libraries in working with populations that may be currently underserved.
To qualify for this grant, your project must serve a targeted outreach population as defined by NYS Education Law 273 (1)(h). Applications must be for projects serving persons who belong to one or more of the following groups:
• Blind or physically disabled
• Seniors (55+)
• Developmentally or learning disabled
• Residents of institutions
• Members of ethnic groups in need of special services
• Educationally disadvantaged
• Unemployed or underemployed
• Geographically isolated
Libraries may apply for a grant ranging from $250 to $1,000. Grant funds may be used for such expenses as speaker fees, supplies, publicity, or library materials. Grant funds may not be used for operational expenses, library construction, or staffing (including library substitutes). Applications should be e-mailed to Kathy Van Ness by Friday, April 19th. Questions may be directed to Paulette Roes.
