Movie Licensing

Your library is included in the NCLS Annual Site License from Movie Licensing USA beginning December 1 and expiring November 30.

COVERAGE OVERVIEW: With your annual public performance site license you can show an unlimited amount of films for any aspect of programming inside the library.  MLUSA does not provide copies of the movies.  You can show any legally obtained film as long as our license covers it.  Renting, borrowing or buying legal copies to use is acceptable.  You do not need to let MLUSA know which movies are being shown inside your library; we just ask that you check the movie search tool before showing a movie.  Outside groups in the community can also show movies in the library with this site-based license!  Some libraries even post the “Online Movie Search Tool” information in their meeting room instructions for any groups that would like to show a movie in the library.  Outdoor showings are not allowed or covered under this license.

STUDIOS: The exclusive studio coverage for this license includes: Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, NBC/Universal Pictures, New Line Cinema, Lionsgate Films, MGM, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Summit Entertainment, Focus Features, Miramax, Warner Independent Pictures, Fine Line Features, and United Artists.

MOVIE SEARCH TOOL:  To check if a film you wish to show is covered, go to our website.  If the film comes up, you are free to show it.  It is best to enter just one word of the title to search as our program is not sensitive to alternative spellings, etc.  Most movies will have a link to a brief description and still photo.  The movie is still covered under the annual license if the title does not have this link.  If the movie you are searching for does not appear when you do your movie search but you believe it is from one of the studios on the license, please call MLUSA at 888-267-2658 and they can assist with PPR coverage.
