Innovative Services Grant

The Innovative Services Grant encourages library boards and staff to adopt non-traditional services indicative of the evolving role libraries are playing in their communities.

Applicable services are not narrowly defined. While these may include technology and maker oriented services, it also includes simpler services and programs that are not typical of traditional library services. If you need help with ideas, you can view the presentation from the class Libraries. Innovation. Synergy. You can also send any questions about proposals to Matt Corey at

The deadline to submit proposals is November 17th, 2017. Funds will be awarded for approved projects/programs with the expectation of approved projects to be in place by March 2018. Awards will be competitive and range from $100-$2,000. Not all submissions will receive an award and some submissions may receive partial funding. Funds are awarded for projects not already in place at the library. Awards may be used on projects that complement (but not expand on) an existing innovative service. Award winners will be expected to give a brief presentation of their project at a summer 2018 Director’s Organization meeting.

For each submission, please provide:

  • A description of the project

  • How the project meets a community need

  • Timeline for project

  • Project costs and if the library is able to partially fund the project

  • A plan for promoting this service
