Join us on Tuesday, September 24 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Watertown for the 2019 NCLS Annual Meeting - the biggest networking and learning opportunity of the year.
Schedule of Events
9:30am - Registration
10am – Keynote: Engaging Community Partners in Support of Imagination Library. Ginny Carmody, Executive Director of the Literacy Coalition of Onondaga County, will talk about the success the group has had in working collaboratively with community partners to improve literacy rates. One of the coalition's greatest successes has been the countywide implementation of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which has had a positive impact on kindergarten readiness across all socioeconomic levels in the community. She’ll discuss the role a successful early literacy program can have in kindergarten readiness and the positive impact it has on grade level reading and improved graduation rates.
11:15am - Brunch/Speeches/Awards: Enjoy a delicious brunch as NCLS Director Susan Mitchell shares a welcome message, followed by awards for member libraries.
1pm – Afternoon Workshop: Small Libraries, Big Impact. Your libraries have a big impact on the communities they serve. We’ll take a deep dive into the issues that affect contemporary library service. We’ll celebrate the ways we’ve grown to meet new users and new needs and we’ll talk about some of the barriers community members may still have to accessing library services and how we can overcome them. During our gamified afternoon workshop, we’ll use a trivia competition to springboard into a discussion about the decisions we make in our libraries and how they can have a lasting impact on our communities. Plus…there will be opportunities to win prizes for your libraries.
