Early Closure Friday, April 15

NCLS will be closing at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 15th.

It has been a long journey, but we finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Or shall we say the light at the end of a bulb? This Friday, National Grid will be shutting off our power to complete the final step of hooking up our solar panels. NCLS staff will be unavailable until Monday morning, except on an emergency basis. If there is an emergency, contact the emergency support number and someone will contact you.

We will have a backup generator operating the server room. Automation (Sirsi), catalog, websites, email, etc., will be available for the libraries and the public.

The delivery schedule for Friday will remain unchanged.

If you have any questions, please contact Stephen Gaines at sgaines@ncls.org.

NYS Budget Update

Here's the latest New York State budget news from NYLA (from Jeremy Johannesen on 4/1):

The Governor and Legislature have come to an agreement on the FY2016-17 New York State budget.
Thanks to your efforts and effective advocacy, we are happy to report the following:
State Library Aid: $95.6M ($4M increase)
This allocation represents a 4.3% increase in total library aid, which is equivalent to the increase in educational foundation aid. This is the most library aid included in any state budget since FY2008-09.
State Library Construction Aid: $19M ($5M increase)
The allocation for the construction aid program was increased by $5M, or 35%, which is the first increase in nearly a decade.
This year's budget, an election year budget, produced many challenges. The cumulative effect of your advocacy efforts  - your letters, phone calls, meeting with your legislators, participation in Advocacy Day - made the difference and allowed us to fare better than many groups. Thank you!
