Youth Services Roundup 6/18/20

It's not too late for your library to participate in a summer meals program this year! Libraries can serve as sites where children receive meals, operating under a local sponsoring organization like a food bank or a school district. Use this Summer Meals Sponsor Directory to connect with sponsors in your area; contact your local school district, too, as they may plan to sponsor summer meals this year even if they haven't in the past. If you have any questions concerning summer meals and library participation, please reach out to Krista Hesdorfer of Hunger Solutions NY at

The ALSC Virtual Storytime Services Guide is now available! " As libraries of all types expand their digital collections and explore virtual programming, we offer this guide as a resource to those seeking to offer or improve storytime services from afar. While this guide primarily focuses on virtual storytime, it also includes helpful resources and suggestions for other online library experiences and virtual children’s programs." Check it out!

If your library is offering online programming this summer between July 6 and August 14, please add it to the shared calendar on the Virtual Branch so that patrons throughout our region can access everything our libraries have to offer this summer. You can add your program here and it will show up within three business days here on the Virtual Branch. Here are some handy FAQs to get your started, but you can always contact me if you have questions.

Have you signed up for READsquared? The online suimmer reading platform is provided at no cost to you by the New York State Library, and any library can add the mobile app for $100. For more information, visit the NYS Summer Reading page.
