Work Group Roundup 5/18/20

County:

In order to help keep our member libraries up to date throughout the reopening process, NCLS will be sending a weekly roundup with brief summaries of projects and initiatives from each pandemic response work group.

TIMELINE/POLICIES/SAFETY

The NCLS Reopening Guide is now available! This online document includes a staged reopening plan, NYS guidance, sample policies, safety checklists, and tools for libraries to offer modified services. (Susan Mitchell, Paulette Roes, Matt Corey)

IMPROVING DIGITAL SERVICES

NCLS is exploring an app that will give patrons a no-contact method of checking out physical materials, working with SIRSI on e-mail receipts, expanding the Help Desk, and working with OverDrive to organize a community read for summer. We are also pricing some requested online resources, such as Creativebug. Interested in signing up for a June shift on the Help Desk? Sign up here! (Todd Battista, Angela Newman)

SHARED ONLINE PROGRAMMING

The Shared Online Programming Group is working on a North Country Libraries Facebook page that will showcase programming offered by all 65 libraries.  The page will link to the Facebook pages and websites for each library.  There will be an email forthcoming with more information and a request for submissions.  The group is also exploring the possibility of tutorials for different platforms (Facebook, Instagram etc.) to help libraries connect with their patrons. (Kristy Perry)

NEW SERVICES MODELS AND PARTNERSHIPS

We are currently exploring different options in reaching out to our community.  Our group has been discussing having Story Walks and creating family activity packets to distribute through partner agencies. We are collecting online activity sheets and sharing them in Google Drive to see if we want to include them in the family activity packets. (Natalie Curran, Jessica Godfrey)

SUMMER READING

Planning for the Summer Reading Program for our member libraries is underway. Many of the libraries are collaborating at a system level to provide ideas and shared programming for any library who would like to participate. Specifically there will be virtual and non-virtual programming for Early Lit, School Age, and Teens. Stay tuned to the youthserv list for updates or email Brooke if you'd like to get involved. (Brooke Hartle, Katie Male-Riordan)
