New month, new lists!

Barnes and Noble kicks it off with this month's highlights in Fiction, Mysteries, and Thrillers, while SBTB unpacks new and upcoming romance. Meanwhile, The Millions has their Most Anticipated picks for this month, Entertainment Weekly shares their October favorites, and Lit Hub has 21 Books You Should Read This October. (For even more October lists, check out the October 2 Book Pulse from Library Journal. Totally worth the login.)

But wait! This new month isn't just any new month...it's October. Yes, October - the month when even scaredy-cats like me might venture to try a creepy read. With that in mind, check out Book Riot's Best Horror Books from 2018, this list of 13 Terrifyingly True Tales from Goodreads, and 23 Great Women Horror Writers from Lit Hub.

In awards news, there's the Carnegie Medal Longlist and the Kirkus Prize Finalists. Those of you looking to replenish a recently weeded nonfiction collection might want to fire up yer shopping cart as you check out those lists; there's a whole bunch of good stuff on there. For even more nonfiction, check out this list of Must-Read Poetry from The Millions, these Top Ten Food Books from Booklist, and these lists from Barnes and Noble featuring upcoming Biographies and History books.

In adaptation news, romance is taking over Netflix with adaptations of both the Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias series! (Okay, it's not taking over just yet. But soon. And when it does, I'll be ready.)

Finally, #FridayReads: On the nightstand: The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, by Stuart Turton. In my earbuds: Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, by Eric Idle. Happy reading/listening!
