Library Aide – Annie P. Ainsworth Memorial Library

The Annie Porter Ainsworth Memorial Library seeks an organized, dependable, and hard-working Library Aide. The applicant should possess basic customer service and computer skills, be eager to learn new technology, and be able to assist with library programming and events. Duties include cleaning and disinfecting the library, performing circulation duties as needed, and shelving materials as well as other duties. The position requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Previous library experience and working with the public is preferred. The position is part-time (16-19 hours per week) with the following schedule (schedule may change): Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and every other Saturday 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Library Associate – Hay Memorial Library

Hay Memorial Library, located in the Village of Sackets Harbor, NY announces a staff opening for a part-time Library Associate.

The Library Associate works in close collaboration with and reports to the Library Director.
Duties include front desk patron services, circulation and collection maintenance tasks,
circulation reports and record keeping, as well as some creative library programming
responsibilities.

Position Hours: 15-18 hours weekly, Tuesday-Thursday, most Saturdays.
Educational Requirements: Must possess a high school diploma, Associate’s Degree preferred.
Previous library experience is a plus.

Web Services Coordinator – North Country Library System

The North Country Library System (NCLS) is located along the Black River in Watertown, NY. Our mission is to support local libraries and the communities they serve to maximize sharing, creativity, and innovation and improve the lives of North Country residents at home, at work, at school and at play. We do that by providing shared resources and services to 65 member libraries across Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties. NCLS has an opening for a Web Services Coordinator to develop and maintain our collective online presence.

The NCLS Web Services Coordinator:
• Works with member libraries and system staff to develop guidelines, procedures and documentation that ensure websites are implemented in pursuit of best practices and library standards.
• Manages the system’s website
• Provides website maintenance support to member libraries through one-on-one consultations and group instruction
• Works collaboratively with system staff to support digital projects and develop new online initiatives
• Explores technologies to improve access to library resources, services, and information
• Helps manage online services such as Springshare products and mobile app technology
• Participates in local, state-level and national-level meetings, trainings, and conferences when appropriate. Regularly engages in professional development activities.
• Occasionally travels to member libraries for consultations
• Performs other duties in the IT department as needed

Required qualifications:
• Minimum of 3 years work experience in web design field
• Experience working with WordPress core, designing, and implementing new features and functionality and establishing and guiding website architecture.
• Experience with front end technologies including HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery and backend technologies including PHP and JavaScript
• Experience with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
• The ability to communicate complex technical material to users who possess varying levels of technical skills and abilities

Desired qualifications:
• Associates degree in web development or similar study
• Experience with Multisite and/or Site Ground
• Familiarity with public libraries and the services they provide to their communities.
• Experience with graphic design (Canva, Photoshop, etc.)

Annual Salary and Benefits:
Salary is $40,000-$45,000 based on experience plus generous benefits package that includes membership in the NYS Employee Retirement and supplemental insurance options.

Executive Director – North Country Library System

Take a leadership role and help northern New York libraries maintain sustainability with core needs of adequate funding and compliance as well as explore innovative services and resource sharing.

The North Country Library System (NCLS) seeks a visionary leader responsive to member library and community needs, and skilled in focusing the efforts of a talented staff to be its next Executive Director (ED). NCLS is a cooperative of 65 public libraries covering Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, and St. Lawrence Counties of New York State. With a $2.6 million budget and 15 FTE staff, NCLS is a member focused organization with a mission to provide collaborative services that strengthen our libraries. NCLS’s 14,000 square foot, solar supplemented headquarters is situated on a beautiful eleven-acre wooded lot bordering the Black River in Watertown, NY.

The North Country region offers a vibrant blend of outdoor activities, safe and affordable
communities, and easy access to the advantages of larger cities. Watertown is a growing small
city that is a few miles from Lake Ontario and the Thousand Islands region. The Adirondacks,
Kingston and Ottawa, Ontario, and Syracuse are all nearby. The area is a recreational

Responsibilities. The Executive Director, under the general direction of the Board of
Trustees, is responsible for the administration of system operations. The ED supervises the
department managers and works with the board, staff, and library directors to align system

Qualifications. An ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science; the ability to obtain a
NY State Public Librarian Certificate; a minimum of eight years post MLS experience, three
years in an administrative capacity – with all requirements to be met by the end of
calendar year 2021. Essential abilities and experience include creativity, enthusiasm,
superior written and oral communications skills; political acumen; consensus-building skills;
experience in recruiting, evaluating and mentoring staff; a thorough knowledge of library trends
and best practices; an understanding of evolving library technology as well as budget and
finance issues; proven success working with and reporting to a governing board.

Compensation. The hiring salary range is $85,000 – $100,000 (with placement being
dependent on experience and qualifications) and an attractive benefits package.

Library Director – Henderson Free Library

Due to the retirement of the current director, the Henderson Free Library is looking for a new director. Nestled in a rural lakeside (Lake Ontario) community in southern Jefferson County, this association library is a valued community resource actively supported by its patrons and the town. Reporting to the library’s Board of Trustees, the Library Director develops and manages the collection, recommends library policies, monitors library services, manages the annual budget, creates public relations materials and programming for children and adults, supervises staff and volunteers, stays informed of developments in library management, and works closely with the North Country Library System.

Desired Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Management of all library services, including circulation, operations, and activities consistent with library policies and NYS law
• Supervision and development of support staff and volunteers
• Development and evaluation of all library programming
• Good judgment, resourcefulness, a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and flexibility
• A welcoming attitude and commitment to excellent customer service
• Budget preparation in collaboration with the Board, recommendation of policies and goals, and regular communication with the Library Board of Trustees
• Ability to use and teach current technologies
• Familiarity with NYLA and ALA regulations and the importance of confidentiality

Qualifications:
• Minimum
o Two academic years of study at an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience in a library setting
o Experience with community outreach or related community work

o Previous employment in a library

Employment Type/Compensation
• 33 hours per week, with some flexibility based on current library activities
